Our aim is to ensure your child's two years at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate will be enjoyable and productive. At Blockhouse Bay Intermediate you can expect your child to be well taught and looked after.
We hope that you will work with us to provide the best education possible for your child. We offer a supportive and positive environment in which our students can learn. We expect them to make the best of all opportunities offered.
At Blockhouse Bay Intermediate we will aim to educate the whole child. Learning and teaching inside and outside the classroom focuses on developing skills in the following areas:
• Academic, by covering all seven areas of the NZ curriculum. • Social, by developing social skills through the Skills for Adolescence programme. • Cultural, by offering a wide range of activities including music, drama, dance and art. • Sporting, by offering both competitive and non-competitive sporting opportunities.
In each of these areas we offer support for those needing extra help and extension for those with special needs.
Blockhouse Bay Intermediate is a multicultural school, reflecting Auckland's diversity and we celebrate the rich character this adds to our school.
We extend a warm welcome to you as parents, caregivers and friends to become fully involved in our school life. You are welcome to visit our school at any time to discuss your child's needs. I look forward to meeting you at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate.
Mr Brian Knight Chairperson
We would like to welcome all parents and students to Blockhouse Bay Intermediate School.
It is our aim to provide the students at this school with opportunities that will encourage them to develop into independent learners.
We recognise that these two years are very important years in the children’s education and development, moving them from primary school to preparing them to face the challenges ahead in college. It is our vision that children as this school will be encouraged to achieve excellence, seize opportunities, develop skills to overcome obstacles and realise they can make a difference.
Yearly goals are set which reflect the high expectations we have for academic improvement for ALL students. The Board receives regular reports which show progress made, levels of academic achievement against national norms, and enable us to fund extra support of programmes where staff have identified the need.
The Board has recognised the importance of employing quality staff and resourcing the rooms with equipment that allows the staff to develop the students skills in an ever-changing technological world. We also realise that children learn best in a safe environment and endeavour to provide staff and children with just that and will take all reasonable steps to ensure the learning environment is free from all forms of harassment.
