Health Education

Health Education at Blockhouse Bay Intermediate supports students to understand themselves, relate positively to others and make thoughtful decisions as they move through early adolescence.

Our programme is guided by the Health and Physical Education learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum, with a focus on hauora, positive relationships, and responsible decision making. Students learn about wellbeing, identity, friendships, personal safety, healthy choices, and the physical, emotional, and social changes of adolescence. In Year 7, this includes age-appropriate learning about puberty in term 4.

The learning is closely connected to our schools values of manaakitanga, rangatiratanga, wairuatanga and whanaungatanga. Our aim is to help students develop the confidence, empathy, resilience and sense of responsibility they need for intermediate, high school and beyond.
