Our long serving caretaker is retiring. We are seeking a reliable, hands-on, and dedicated Caretaker to join our team of two, help us maintain a safe, tidy, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and community. This is a full-time, permanent position that requires pride in your work and a positive, can-do attitude.
About the role:
As our school’s Caretaker, you will be responsible for the security, cleanliness, and maintenance of our buildings and grounds. You will be an integral part of our close-knit team, ensuring our school premises are functional and well-presented.
Key responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and repairs: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, furniture, and equipment (e.g., fixing leaky faucets, painting, and basic carpentry).
  • Security: Ensure the security of the school buildings and grounds, including unlocking and locking up, and responding to after-hours alarms. Please note this is a split shift role with hours 7-10am and 1 – 6pm.
  • Groundskeeping: Maintain the grounds to a high standard, including litter removal, lawn care, garden maintenance, and clearing drains.
  • Cleaning: Attend to minor cleaning duties, respond to spills, and liaise with the contract cleaning company to ensure high standards are met.
  • Health and safety: Monitor the premises for potential hazards, carry out regular safety checks, and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Facilities management: Support teaching staff where required. 
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Proven experience in a maintenance or caretaking role.
  • Basic trade skills, including carpentry and plumbing.
  • The ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • A high degree of responsibility and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and the wider school community.
  • A full driver’s license.
  • A satisfactory police vet/background check is required for this role. We will provide one if needed.
